Yeah it seem like I'm picking sad songs to highlight, but a majority of Ralfi Pagan's songs were pretty sad, he was a crooner, and that's what he's know for. It when your on the outside looking do you want it back and that's what this song means to me now. We all go through it at some point in our lives, where things don't always end up the way we want them to in relationships, either by taking it for granted or something else. I just always knew it was soulful and had a great melody, but now I really feel those words of loss. It wasn't till I heard a CD version of ' Make it with you' that I realized that it wasn't the tape that had bad quality but the original recording and that made me laugh.Īnd it wasn't till I was an adult that I could really appreciate the lyrics of ' Look at Her'. I remember riding around with my Dad and him playing a beat up old tape with some random Ralfi Pagan songs, I remember thinking the tape was gonna die at any point, because it sounded like it barely survived from the 70's. And I'd assume it does with most Chicano's that grew up in the 80's and 90's. This week's pick Ralfi Pagan, really hits a special note with me. Some day, these people will get theirs, through a higher power. I have it all documented, all the paperwork, what really happened to him.where, when and why, and it was all about money. I want all of Ralfi's wonderful fans to know the truth. So for those who believe that, I hope this clears it up for you. It's very sad that a good man, with a love of music, leaves this beautiful world, and a lot of people think he passed away because of drugs. I just want everyone to know the way my brother passed away. Occasionally, on special occasions, birthdays, holidays, he might have a little glass of champagne, but that's it. He didn't drink beer, he didn't drink liquor. Adding insult to injury, my sister, Isabel, read in the newspaper in New York that Ralfi Pagan died in Colombia because of drugs. Instead, they took him to a beach, killed him and left his body there. They came to Ralfi's hotel and picked him up to go perform. Finally, he was contacted by the promoter's agents. On his own, he arranged interviews at various radio stations there. No one had contacted him for gigs or interviews. He wrote a letter to our mom, saying that things weren't going according to plan. Ralfi flew to Colombia and was there for almost two weeks. Things went well for a while, but business started to taper off, so the promoter decided Ralfi should go on tour in Colombia to make money. He contracted with Ralfi and started promoting him. In the early 70's, Ralfi met a businessman who wanted to get into the music industry. This self-titled record opens with two of the most unrepentant crossover ballads of the era ('Don't Stop Now' and 'Who Is the Girl for Me').I would like all of Ralfi's fans to know the truth, exactly what happened to him. Owning a falsetto far sweeter than Smokey Robinson or Eugene Record, but with far less strength, Ralfi Pagan was a Latin lover for the salsa set of the '70s.
